From the time I was young, my mother and father taught me to be to help people in need. They brought me to many events through their civic organizations. As an adult, I have found a way to bring together my love for cosplay and the values taught to me by my parents. There is such a joy in look in the eyes of a child when they our group walking up to them, because in their eyes we are who we represent. The relief and thankfulness in the eyes of parents and loved ones of the child when they see them happy and visiting with their favorite hero.
At one of our events, there was a young girl who was afraid of anyone in a mask. She grabbed my hand and pulled me aside and asked me questions about who I was and who everyone else was. She then allowed me to walk her over to my masked colleagues and introduce them to her. As her smile broadened with each hero she met, her fears abated. It was simply amazing to be there to help her and be her guide.
Experiences like that keep me coming back.
